FURTHER DETAILS
Borders
Starting border (presumed), flat woven, 38mm long, c.0.8mm wide, composed of two transverse bands interlacing with the main Z-spun warp of the web (fig 00): outer band: 8 pairs of medium Z-spun (sic) yarns (as main web’s warp), yarn diameter c.0.25mm, c.9mm across the pairs; inner band: 4 pairs of medium S-spun (sic) yarns, yarn diameter c.0.25mm, c.3mm across the pairs (but distorted), followed directly by the main diamond twill web. Between Z- and S-spun pairs (fig 00) the main warp is regrouped, but the regrouping is only visible in 2-3 places, 2 of them adjacent to one another, and certain. Too little survives of the contiguous diamond twill web for the link between the starting border and the nearest diamond twill repeats to be drafted.
