FURTHER DETAILS
Edges
Length of loose selv.: 60 mm. Width of selv.: 4 mm. Length of surviving weft: 60 mm. Length of strip to which it is sewn: 80 mm. Selvedge structure: wrapped with yarn pairs, weak S spun. Structure probably, but not certainly, like 94.104, etc. Weft seems to be browner colour than warp, both in ground weave and selvedge. 3 bundles of 3 yarns each.
Sewing
Description
The strip appears to represent a rolled hem, held in position by some fine Z plied 2 ply from 2 weak S spun yarns. Thickness of ply 1 mm. wool. This hem? is fastened to the main fragment by a stitch in coarse goat hair. Structure uncertain, but looks like Z ply. This amalgamation probably represents work on site at Berenike.
