Berenike

Berenike (also known as Berenice Troglodytica) was an ancient seaport on the west shore of the Red Sea, on the territory of modern Egypt. It was founded in 275 BCE by Ptolemy II and abandoned after the 6th century CE. During the Roman Imperial period (1st century BCE - 2nd century CE) Berenike was an important waystation for trade between Upper Egypt, Arabia, and India.
