Catalogue number
VIN 73-75 039
Inventory number
96, 95, 30, 97, 21
Description
Medium fine dark brown di amond twill in five pieces. The grouping of Z- and S- spun yarns in System (2) seems to conform to no set pattern. In Inv.no.96 10-12 S-spun are followed by 10-12 Z-spun yarns; in Inv.no. 30 the repeat is 2 S-spun, 1 Z-spun, 2 S- spun etc.; in Inv. no. 95 there are large irregular groups; in Inv. no .21 all yarns at one end of the fragment are S-spun, those at the other Z-spun. Nevertheless, in the web from which these fragments come, a regular scheme may have been followed.
The cloth is felted on one side, heavily worn on the other.
