VIN 73-75 033 Wool 2/2 twill, z/s

Description
Part of a sheath (?) in medium coarse diamond twill.
Most of the surface of the cloth is matted and felted, so that analysis was possible in only one small area; but it seemed to be representative. Felting inside the object suggests that the textile originally had a raised nap.

Sewing
Description
As it stands, the object is made of two pieces of the same textile, one larger, one smaller, sewn together round the 3 surviving sides. The sewing yarn is 2-ply wool, c. 1.5mm thick, S-plied from weak Z-spun yarns. The join is in rough edge-to-edge overstitching, in a single thread on 2 sides and in a double thread on the third.
The overstitching once went the whole length of one side of the larger strip of cloth.
