Pattern
Chevrons parallel to System 2 (ie in System 2 which could be warp or weft (fig 00): no exact draft possible, but reading down System 1 across line of chevrons (seen as running horizontally to viewer): c.150mm Z-slope (from cloth edge)/c.25mm S-slope/c.40mm Z-slope/c.80mm S-slope to cloth edge; displacement at change of slope direction; structure differs from that in 337/002
Other features
Fault in weave running in direction of system (1) (fig 00): at binding points alternate threads of system (2) are misplaced, floating over 2 adjacent threads of (1) on front and 2 adjacent threads on back of cloth by turns (intermediate threads behave normally); 2 adjacent fault lines comprise a band as in fig. 00 draft. 2 such bands appear close together in one place, 1 single fault band in another, which seems to end within ground weave (for position see fig 00); points of contact between these fault bands and change of direction in chevrons is either absent or obscured (ie no draft possible).
Compare TT/87/439/001 (but diamond twill)
Notes from the original description
[CHECK: JPW draft of this fault in (1) in 337/002 shows 2 lines of fault next to one another; does the fault ‘band’ (so called in JPW outline drawings of 337/001 and 337/002) in each case comprise 2 adjacent lines of fault or just 1?]
