Other features
Looped areas marked A, B and C on plan. Areas offset in relation to one another in grid pattern. Each area measures c.95mm square, but an area with no loops shows that this is not an overall pattern.
Loops are supplementary and do not replace weft pairs. Two loop lines are added as a pair to an existing weft pair in same shed. Ground weft count between loop lines always odd, varying from 3 to 7. In B there are 12 loop lines, in others uncountable.
Loops are formed in yarn as weft, each loop line weft is pulled up separately from its mate to form two loops between each warp pair (see drawing). The loops are Z twisted when they protrude, c. 13mm long.
Fault: in one case, entering area B there are 4 warp threads = 2 pairs in same unit. The loops pass between these two pairs as if nothing were amiss.
Loop lines only run with the weft pairs in the areas and not across the ground weave. For junction between areas, see drawing. Looped wefts end in raw ends.
