FURTHER DETAILS
Borders
Fringe strands are z plied 2 ply s single yarns, length 180mm each, i.e. fringe as constructed is 90mm long. Openwork band now c.28mm wide. Fringe base c.55mm in weft direction.
Other features
The framework of the openwork is built from z plied pairs of warp in various combinations, 2s and 4s, wrapped with extra thread which is a z plied pair of s single yarns. Above and below the openwork are plaited bands, apparently 3 at the top and 2 below. Exact form uncertain. plied warp pairs emerge from lower plait, secure bundles of fringe strands which are looped round them and then are used to wrap the tassel so formed sideways. Exact course uncertain. In addition, the fringe bundles pass over a pair of parallel extra 3 ply threads, z plied from 3 s single yarns.
