FURTHER DETAILS
Borders
Transverse finishing border: warp pairs exit and are plaited around neighbours to form 2 rows of Z plait. Ends of warp pairs twisted Z with others are then converted, when they emerge out from the plait, into an outer row of cording that looks almost like knots. Exact structure uncertain. A version of Bergman B6.
Length of finishing border 100mm.
Edges
weft, reinforced, as 0172. Over 3 bundles of 3.
Other features
Sequence: transverse border/50mm undyed/21 dark blue yarn, as weft/5 und./ 28 light blue/5 und./24 dark blue/6 und./23-4 light blue/6 und./22+ dark blue
Odd fragments of blue yarn are held by the outer cording row. Blue on line of corded finish appears on both sides of the seam between this fabric and the extra basket weave behind it. Made of S single blue yarns with dye surviving differentially.
Looks like some form of piping stitched through the fabric thickness. Dye has not penetrated to centre of yarn. Yarns worked in pairs. Could have been applied at the time of the seaming. Structure uncertain.
