FURTHER DETAILS
Colours
Blue dye yarn in system 1.
Pattern
Traces of a vanishing blue dye at one end. Might once have been check.
Other features
traces of vanishing blue dye at one end
Dye appears on outside of fibre and not on inside - dyed in the hank, badly?
The strip 0170 appears to be a cloth reinforced by bands of 0169. One similar is sewn down the back of 0170, another near one end, at 90ยง to 0170. It passes between 0170 and the longer, other band. (See separate drawing)
Length of 0170 strip: 250 mm x 40 mm (warp direction).
Bands of 0169 attached to 0170 c. 25 mm wide, inc. traces of blue.
The strips recorded as 0169 are loose pieces of what was once part of the structure of 0170.
A carefully-made, reinforced object, e.g. a tent? (A sail.)
Presumably the bands and strips are sewn together, but sewing yarn cannot now be distinguished.
