Description
Fragmentary object consisting of a cord with projecting loops.
"A foundation cord ... weak S-plied from 2 Z-plied subsidiary cords), each twisted from 2 fne S-spun cotton yarns. It is 2.5 mm thick. It serves to anchor a row of close-set short loops, formed from fner cotton string which is 2-ply, Z-plied from 2 fne S-spun yarns, each about 0.3 mm thick. The loops project about 28 mm from the base cord, though a few now stretch up to 35 mm, and may have done so originally. A small repair knot or join is visible in one loop. To create the loops, the weaver laced the fner string around the foundation cord in a series of elongated slip-knots: pulling the end of the string would have undone all the loops.
Measured laterally along the foundation cord the row of loops in its present state ex-tends for 7.5 cm, but may originally have been 10 cm or more long. There seem to have been about four loops per cm. The main foundation cord is 14 cm long, ending in rough knots, to one of which are attached successively three extra pieces of cord of a slightly diferent character, fastened together with even rougher knots. Assuming that functionally the lengths of cord belong together, their combined length is about 33 cm. " (Wild et al. 2015, p. 143)
